McAfee Simplifies Connected Home Security with New Alexa Skill

Today McAfee, the device for cloud cybersecurity company, announced the planned launch of the new McAfee Secure Home Platform for Amazon Alexa. Soon, customers with a McAfee Secure Home Platform-enabled router can use the ability to easily manage the network security of their connected home using their voice. Available on selected routers, including the D-Link AC2600 with McAfee * technology, McAfee Secure Home Platform offers an integrated security layer that automatically protects Internet-connected devices in the home network against a variety of threats and provides robust parental controls.

With the increasing amount of personal information flowing to and from connected things in consumers' homes, it is imperative that security extends to all of those things. New devices such as game consoles, home security systems, thermostats and other Internet of Things (IoT) devices must be secured to avoid becoming a target for cybercriminals.

"Consumers must take a proactive stance to move security beyond the endpoint and into the connected home network," said John Giamatteo, executive vice president of McAfee's consumer business group. "McAfee understands that for consumers to use security solutions, they must fit seamlessly into the way they live their lives." With the McAfee Secure Home Platform for Alexa, we provide customers with the additional convenience of simply managing the security of your home network using your voice. "

Here are some ways that customers can use their voice to manage and control McAfee Secure Home Platform features from Alexa-enabled devices:

"Alexa, ask McAfee how many devices are online at this time"
Customers can easily discover the devices in their home network and receive information when a new device is added.
"Alexa, ask McAfee to scan my network"

In the case of a botnet attack, McAfee Secure Home Platform blocks the attack and informs the user through an Alexa notification and through the McAfee mobile application.
"Alexa, ask McAfee what the state of my network is"
Provides a summary of all devices connected to the home network, if they are locked or unlocked, which devices have notifications, and more.
"Alexa, ask McAfee to lock / unlock {Device1}"
Allows customers to lock or unlock a device on the network using the device name as a parameter.
